2016 was filled mostly with shocking news about the death of legends like Prince, George Michael and Carrie Fisher. It has dominated the news cycle all throughout the year. Aside from these deaths, there were other controversies that wrapped the world of celebrities in 2016, and they are definitely worth another glance.

8. The big lie of Ryan Lochte

The world had their eyes at Rio for the 2016 Olympics. The United States has been raking medals here and there, when suddenly, the news that Ryan Lochte was held at gunpoint erupted. As investigation continued and evidence came out, and it was revealed that Lochte was in fact lying. There was no such thing. Instead, he was at fault for what happened. He was banned from swimming until June 2017 and also lost $100,000 in bonuses. He landed a spot at “Dancing with the Stars” though, in which protesters took the stage after his performance. Later in 2016, he got engaged, so it still ended well after all.

7. The Ripa-Strahan split

In April 2016, the news that Michael Strahan was leave Live! stunned the fans, and even his co-host Kelly Ripa. They have been together hosting this show for a long time. The worst part is that he left to take a hosting gig at a rival show, Good Morning America. After the news broke, Ripa did not come to work and started her scheduled vacation earlier. Strahan was not supposed to end his contract until September, but he ended it earlier to Ripa’s surprise. She is yet to have a new co-host after Strahan’s departure.

6. Johnny Depp and the allegations of domestic abuse

After just a year of marriage, the two ended up with a divorce, and an ongoing legal battle. Though nobody really expected this marriage to last, its messy ending caused a bit of a stir in Hollywood. It was said that they were coming to a $7 million settlement after Amber Heard was requested to withdraw her allegations of domestic abuse.

5. Leslie Jones’ harassment on social media

Leslie Jones’ year was actually not that bad considering that she starred in an all-female remake of Ghostbusters. The SNL star became the center of a Twitter hate campaign since then especially when he crossed fire with Milo Yiannopoulos, a conservative troll. He started by asking his followers to tweet Jones and start abusive jokes. Her account was also hacked. She fought back weeks later and became a better role model for women.

It was definitely a rocky 2016 for this couple. It started with reports of Kim being held at gunpoint in Paris in October where millions of dollars worth of jewelry were stolen from her. She then avoided the public eye since the incident and even became silent in social media (which is totally not her personality). It was later reported that Kanye started showing erratic behavior leading to his hospitalization due to a psychotic breakdown. Now, it is reported that the two are heading for a divorce.

This became the hottest issue towards the end of the year when Mariah bungled her New Year’s Eve performance. She was supposed to sing with the track or lip sync, but she ended up not singing at all. According to her team, her earpiece was not working and she couldn’t hear her song, and even accused Dick Clark Productions of sabotaging her performance. For some, it was just evidence that she can’t sing anymore, as this is not the first time it happened.

2. Brangelina’s divorce and abuse allegations

The biggest celebrity couple in Hollywood was deemed unbreakable, but 2016 was so bad, that even their relationship faltered. In September, they called it quits. It would have been a more silent divorce as they opt not to speak about it, but eventually accusations that Pitt abused their eldest son, surfaced. There is definitely a lot more out of this scandal that we are yet to discover in 2017.

What could be a much bigger headline than a scandal involving the person who sought for the highest office of the land? An 11-year old video of Donald Trump and Billy Bush surfaced, showing how they talked about women. The video gave the people a glimpse of who Trump really is when no one is listening. His comment about grabbing women by the p*ssy should have ended his presidential bid, but apparently, he still won. Bush on the other hand, settled with NBC to the tune of $10 million!
